P.I.N.E.
Primitive.
The common use of the word primitive implies something backwards or forgotten, yet primitive means first, not worst! Primitive and Indigenous skills involve creating the necessities of life with nothing more than one’s knowledge, skill and the natural materials and resources found at hand. There is nothing more local or sustainable!
Integrated.
Alfred North Whitehead once said: “There is only one subject, and that subject is life.” We tend to agree. It is our experience that all subjects relate to each other, and this is how we teach.
Naturalist.
We feel that a good naturalist is a person that is keenly aware of place, others, and self. This is what we strive to facilitate: people aware of the social and ecological communities in which they live, and their responsibility within them.
Education.
Our world needs change, and all change begins with education. We feel that learning is an ever present, life-long journey, and it should be fun! The more we know, the more we are!
Be more, need less.
