3449455564_2372b31dfbPlant Stories and Natural History

Spring: May 1, 10am-4pm
Location: Etobicoke Creek
Costs: $50 (plus GST)

Course Description
Join us for the day as we search for, identify, and learn about dozens of species of local Spring wildflowers. Discussion will be combined with hands-on activities designed to engage your senses of sight, smell, taste, and touch (plus hearing, as we will also be listening for bird calls). We will also delve into wildflower lore, enabling us to ponder such questions as how the white trillium became our provincial floral emblem and the meanings behind various plant names. While some mention will be made of edible and medicinal uses, the main emphasis of these workshops will be on learning about wildflowers from a naturalist’s perspective.

Participants should bring: wildflower field guide (if you have one), notebook & pen, binoculars (if you have a pair), 10x hand lens (if you have one), lunch & drink, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, closed toe (rugged) footwear, and clothing appropriate to the weather. Optional: camera.
