Environmental Leadership Program
The P.I.N.E. Environmental Leadership Program engages High School Students (ages 14-17) in a program designed to increase experience and skills in the outdoors, while working in a mentoring relationship with P.I.N.E. staff to develop leadership, teaching, and group management skills with youth. Students gain valuable volunteering hours toward high school requirements, and work toward an end of summer teen overnight wilderness experience at our annual Art of Mentoring course.
The program provides mentoring opportunities with P.I.N.E. staff to gain experience and understanding with our curriculum, supporting personal study, skill and knowledge development during camp and on their own time.
Participants will be expected to train with our staff, plan, prepare and help organize camp activities, as well as acting out specific roles throughout the camps. Along with staff leads, they’ll have the opportunity to act as our “Shadow Scouts” during Coyote Camp, spending large parts of the day working in teams to sneak up on campers, play little tricks on camp groups, and learn to be quiet, silent, and invisible in the woods. It’s wild! And tough… little kids are very aware!
