Fall Medicine Making

Fall Medicine MakingDates: Saturday September 30th & Sunday October 1st 2017

Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm both days

Location: Taylor Creek Park (Saturday) & 1139 College St (Sunday)

Price: $175

Join folk herbalists Lee Earl, BSc Hon and Nikki Satira, BEs Hon for a weekend of learning about local medicinal plants and herbal cold and flu preparations.

On Saturday you will explore the habitats and uses of a few local medicinal plants in Taylor Creek Park. This will include an introduction to field botany, exploring local native and naturalized species used in home herbalism for generations, safe and ethical harvesting practices, and sampling various tisanes made from local herbs. This day is intended to build skills and confidence with introductory level plant identification and using water based remedies for common viruses.

On Sunday we will spend our day indoors, focused on more in-depth medicinal preparations. Each participant will bring home a medicinal preparation that we will make together during the workshop. The intention of these workshops is for participants to come away knowing more about their local environment and to make connections about local abundant medicines. This is not intended to be medical advice, but rather an opportunity to build skills around home health care and plant community connections. All skill levels are welcome.

Please note: we do not harvest plants in Toronto parks and will not be harvesting any plants during this course. You will learn the basics and ethics of harvesting so that you may do so yourself on property you are authorized to harvest on. All of our herbs for our preparations will be provided by The Herbal Clinic and Dispensary.
