The p.i.n.e. project & LEAF establish new Adopt-a-Park-Tree initiative

Leaf Recap

We are happy to announce that we’re teaming up with our friends at LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests) to receive support from their Young Urban Forest Leaders (YUFL) program. Together we will be establishing a new Adopt-a-Park-Tree initiative at Étienne Brûlé Park. LEAF is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the urban forest. LEAF is a like-minded organization who shares our intention of helping to foster the importance of stewardship. By enhancing green spaces with the Adopt-A-Park-Tree program, our p.i.n.e. community has the opportunity to be able to deeply connect to the natural environment.

We are so grateful for this new partnership with LEAF because it is helping our community expand our knowledge of nature connection and ecological restoration. When our p.i.n.e staff adopt trees in the park where we operate, they agree to water, weed and monitor these trees from May to October. The kids in our programs assist in these tasks and ultimately become invested in tree stewardship, while increasing our local trees chance of survival.

On Friday August 18th 2017 the p.i.n.e project and LEAF held their Adopt-A-Park-Tree launch event with our Coyote Day Camp at Étienne Brûlé Park. The campers. Staff, YULF and the LEAF team engaged in a tree tour and mulching park trees. The successful event was an awesome experience and the start of an exciting partnership with LEAF.
