Position: Summer Nature Camp – Program Staff
Location: Toronto, Ontario

Start Date: Mon. June 26, 2017
Duration: 5 week and 9 week contracts available

Seeking full time Program Staff for our 2017 Summer Camps.

This summer we are continuing with our amazing summer camps located in the east and west ends of Toronto. Our camp alternates between weeks of Wanderers Camp/Explorers Camp and Coyote Camps.

This is a paid position working under the supervision of the p.i.n.e. camp directors. All program staff will be expected to work five day camp weeks, with weekends and statutory holidays off. Special notes: Each week of camp has a Thursday evening campfire that staff are required to attend and participate in, from 6:30pm-8:15pm, along with the camp take-down weekend from Aug. 26-27, 2017.


  • Facilitate and supervise positive learning and recreational experiences with campers ages 4-12 in nature
  • Co-lead groups of up to 12 campers with fellow staff
  • Assist in developing camp culture by leading and participating in skits, songs, and games
  • Assist in program planning and development
  • Lead morning and afternoon prep and debrief meetings with all staff
  • Mentor fellow staff in skill building
  • Participate in staff training week and camp take-down weekend
  • Be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Up to date Police Vulnerable Sectors Check
  • Up to date Standard First Aid and CPR or higher
  • Up to date Wilderness First Aid certification (WFR/ WAFA) preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with children in a mentorship role
  • Naturalist knowledge of local ecosystems
  • Experience with the p.i.n.e. project (e.g. have participated in at least 3 tracking clubs)

Staff must:

  • Be enthusiastic, outgoing, and flexible
  • Have experience working with children
  • Be able and willing to work as part of a team
  • Have good communication, time management, and organizational skills
  • Identify with p.i.n.e.’s mission statement and core values
  • Have a desire to further their own naturalist/wilderness skills, mentoring techniques, and/or nature connection through professional development opportunities with p.i.n.e. staff members

Preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or interest in the following areas:

  • Outdoor and environmental education
  • Naturalist experience and knowledge
  • Survival skills, wilderness experience
  • Working in camp settings
  • Experience with p.i.n.e. or affiliate organizations around Ontario or North America


  • Musically inclined
  • Feel comfortable singing and facilitating songs in front of groups
  • Experience in permaculture/growing food
  • Experience in land restoration and stewardship
  • Experience in theatre/drama
